Right now, every kennel at TEARS Animal Rescue is full. Chock-a-block with animals desperate for forever homes. Many of these cats and dogs are the long-stayers or the elderly animals, who have been in the shelter for too long. This is a particularly significant as August is International Clear the Shelters Month and the 1st of August is celebrated as the Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs Day.

This August and September, TEARS is honouring the golden oldies and long-stay legends who have been waiting far too long. The ones with greying snouts and patient eyes. The quiet ones in the back kennels. The loyal souls who’ve already done the growing, and just want somewhere to belong.

TEAR Spokesperson, Tinka Shapiro, says, “Senior pets are often passed over for younger, cuter animals. Some have waited months, others for years. But they still greet the world with cautious hope, ready for one last great love.
