By Tomorrow Trust
Over the past 19 years, The Tomorrow Trust has profoundly impacted the lives of over 10,000 individuals. This remarkable achievement underscores the organisation's commitment to educational excellence and its alignment with broader national objectives. The Tomorrow Trust is dedicated to providing world-class education and support to learners, working tirelessly to ensure that every learner and student has the opportunity to excel and contribute to this national vision. Through its efforts, The Tomorrow Trust not only helps learners and students achieve their full potential but also plays a crucial role in shaping a brighter educational landscape for the future.
The organisation envisions a society where all children, including those who are orphaned and vulnerable, are given a genuine opportunity to succeed both academically and in life. This vision is centred on cultivating conscious, well-rounded leaders who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society. To achieve this vision, the organisation’s mission focuses on nurturing youth from their earliest educational experiences through to their professional careers, ensuring a comprehensive support system that fosters growth and achievement at every stage.
The Tomorrow Trust is committed to laying a strong educational foundation through its accelerated Early Childhood Development (ECD) project, specifically designed for Grade R learners. Recognising the crucial role of early education, this initiative targets children who may have limited access to learning environments, ensuring they are thoroughly prepared for school. The ECD project encompasses a broad spectrum of developmental areas including pre-literacy, numeracy, fine motor skills, socialisation, emotional regulation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and language development.
Through engaging and creative activities, the project fosters leadership and resilience from a young age, encouraging children to take initiative, solve problems, and support each other. Supported by dedicated educators and a caring atmosphere, The Tomorrow Trust’s ECD initiative tailors its approach to meet the individual needs of each child. This nurturing environment helps build a strong sense of self and community, essential for future success.
The Tomorrow Trust supports primary school learners by strengthening literacy and numeracy skills from Grades 1 to 7. The Junior Holiday and Saturday School Programme, available in Gauteng and the Western Cape, ensures a smooth transition from early to later grades and offers digital skills and psychosocial support. This initiative bridges public and private schooling gaps, aiming to build a solid foundation for future educational success and reduce dropout rates.
The Senior Holiday and Saturday Programme focuses on developing resilient and academically strong Grade 12 learners, preparing them for higher education and divers career paths. Operating in Gauteng, the Western Cape, and Limpopo, the programme
emphasises STEM subjects and integrates career mentorship, digital skills, and psychosocial development. This comprehensive approach aims to produce skilled, confident learners ready to excel in their chosen fields and contribute meaningfully to society.
Since 2005, Tomorrow Trust has successfully administered over 1 000 bursaries, partnering with companies, foundations, and organisations to support students’ educational journeys. Our Tertiary Bursary Programme includes comprehensive support, covering financial needs and offering value-added services such as tutoring, psychological counselling, masterclasses, and career networking opportunities. By assisting both undergraduate and postgraduate students nationwide, we aim to reduce financial barriers and help students focus on their studies. Our holistic approach seeks to cultivate well-educated individuals capable of lifting their families out of poverty and contributing to South Africa's economic growth.
The Tomorrow Trust's Alumni Programme creates a vital network for graduates, focusing on mentorship, connection-building, and career support. By facilitating professional development and encouraging alumni to give back, we foster a sustainable cycle of empowerment. Alumni are invited to contribute their time or resources, strengthening the community and reinforcing values of leadership and social impact. This initiative not only supports continuous growth but also helps break cycles of poverty, as alumni apply their education and experiences to drive positive change in their communities. Through ongoing connections, our alumni embody our mission to foster lasting change through quality education.
Reflecting on the substantial growth that Tomorrow Trust has undergone in the past years, CEO Taryn Rae shares her perspective: “I think we have really cemented ourselves within the NGO space, and the most significant shifts for me were a couple of things – the growth within our programmes, extending to reaching more children in various provinces, as well as the depth of our evaluations.” Taryn’s vision for the organisation is to reach more beneficiaries and to be able to advocate for quality education for many years to come.
As Tomorrow Trust continues to shape the future of education, it remains a cornerstone in creating equitable opportunities, cultivating future leaders, and driving positive change in South Africa. The journey of Tomorrow Trust is a testament to the transformative power
of education, illustrating how dedicated support can indeed change lives and build a brighter, more inclusive future.
