Rustenburg Girls’ High School hosts Cyclathon at the Waterfront this Saturday in support of children supporting children

There is something quietly powerful about young people showing up for one another. This Saturday, that spirit will take centre stage at the V&A Waterfront as Rustenburg Girls’ High School hosts its annual Cyclathon in support of Breadline Africa.

Having supported Breadline Africa previously, Rustenburg returns this year to make an even greater impact. The partnership has grown into something even more meaningful. Rustenburg has committed to making Breadline Africa its beneficiary on an ongoing basis – a reflection of a shared belief that every child deserves a safe place to learn and grow.

Breadline Africa works across South Africa to provide safe, sustainable educational spaces for children. From classrooms to libraries and sanitation facilities, these spaces are more than just buildings. They are places of dignity, safety and opportunity.

The Cyclathon takes place from 9am to 9pm at the Waterfront Amphitheatre. It is a fun, 12-hour relay of energy and determination. Each school has been fundraising individually for Breadline Africa in the lead-up to the event. On the day, the public is invited to join in.

Visitors can donate to support the cyclists or hop on a stationary bike and donate while they ride. Every pedal and every contribution helps turn energy into impact for children who need it most.

• Bishops Diocesan College

• South African College Schools (SACS)

The event is open to the public, with stationary bikes available for anyone who would like to take part. Visitors can expect a vibrant atmosphere with live performances by school bands, moments of connection and a shared sense of purpose throughout the day.

“We are incredibly proud to support Breadline Africa again this year,” says Jamie-Lee Steenkamp, a Natural Science Teacher at Rustenburg Girls’ High School and spokesperson for the event. “It is about more than just cycling. It is about showing that we can stand together and make a real difference in the lives of other children.”

Members of the media are warmly invited to attend the event on Saturday, engage with participating schools and capture the spirit of the day. Interview opportunities will be available with Jamie-Lee Steenkamp and representatives from Breadline Africa.
