Samantha Skyring is the Founder and CEO of Oryx Desert Salt, a South African company that supplies naturally organic, mineral-rich salt sourced sustainably from the Kalahari Desert. She began working in her teens and by the age of nineteen was helping to run her father’s aircraft interior refurbishment business with 30 staff. Over the years she has also launched ventures including Kayak Africa and 20 000 Drums, a non-profit bringing drumming and cultural education to children across South Africa.

The source of Oryx Desert Salt is from a deep underground aquifer in the Kalahari Desert, replenished naturally by subterranean streams. This desert salt is free from pollution and contamination, sun-dried, unrefined, and free from additives. Skyring has built the company on the principles of sustainability, using refillable glass grinders and ensuring production is regenerative rather than extractive.

The brand has grown well beyond South Africa, now reaching Europe and the United States where it is stocked by leading retailers such as Whole Foods. Named Natural Salt Brand CEO of the Year (Africa) in 2023, Skyring has shown that South African businesses can thrive on a global stage while staying true to environmental responsibility and ethical practice.
