TEARS Animal Rescue, the Cape Town-based animal rescue non-profit organisation (NPO), needs donations to support its Feed Hungry Pets Programme, which helps families who are struggling to feed their beloved pets. This unique programme provides supplemental feeding to assist families in low-income communities meet their responsibilities. It ensures that pets receive sufficient food and can remain in their homes with the people who love
them.
When there’s barely enough to put food on the table, it’s often the dogs that go hungry. Cats are usually a bit more resourceful when left to fend for themselves, though scavenging and hunting is a risky business in urban areas. While neglect can take the form of deliberately not feeding an animal, there’s also the heartbreaking reality of families who love their pets but can no longer afford to feed for them.
Many find themselves in the awful position of having to surrender their animals. Giving up a beloved pet isn’t neglect - it’s sometimes the only option. These families turn to us for help. Pet food insecurity is the leading cause of surrender in low-income communities and TEARS is committed to supporting as many families as possible by keeping pets in loving homes through the Feed Hungry Pets Programme. This also helps to keep space at our shelter for truly neglected animals in desperate need of rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and care.
TEARS Operations Manager, Mandy Store, says, “We’re appealing to the public to help us assist these families and their pets. We all love our pets, so we can imagine how devastating it must be to give them up or watch them go hungry. Supplement feeding supports families who are really struggling and helps keep loved pets in loving homes.”

Now, we’re asking for your help. Your donations in support of our Feed Hungry Pets Programme will help us provide much-needed food for dogs and cats in need. Together we can keep families whole and companion animals happy and healthy.
Thank you for your donation.
